Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about competing, winning and staying safe on MetaDuels.
The basics
What is MetaDuels?
MetaDuels is a global competitive gaming platform. You can enter esports tournaments in games like Chess, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Call of Duty: Mobile and EA Sports FC Mobile; play a 36-game skill arcade with weekly leaderboards; and host Showdown, a live trivia party game for friends. Every competition is decided by skill, with results verified by our servers, game-publisher APIs, or a referee.
Is MetaDuels free to use?
Yes. Creating an account, playing the arcade, joining free tournaments and hosting Showdown rooms are all free. Some adult tournaments have an optional entry fee that funds the prize pool; the fee and the platform's share are always shown before you join.
Is MetaDuels gambling?
No. MetaDuels hosts competitions of skill. The winner is the player who performs best, not the luckiest one. There is no betting on other people's matches, no games of chance, and spectators cannot stake money on any result.
Which games are supported?
Tournaments run in Chess (Lichess), Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Call of Duty: Mobile, Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, EA Sports FC Mobile, eFootball, Rocket League Sideswipe, Mortal Kombat Mobile, Ludo King and Subway Surfers. The arcade has instant browser games such as Orbit Hop, Neon Drift, Gem Rush, Pinball Nova, Penalty King and Math Hero, which need no download.
Do I need to download anything?
No. MetaDuels runs in any modern browser on phone, tablet or computer. You can also install it as an app from your browser for a full-screen experience and offline arcade practice. Tournament games are played in the publisher's own app.
Prizes and payments
How do prizes work?
Prizes depend on your age tier. Juniors (under 13) receive school items of equal value, such as school supplies, calculators and books. Youth players (13 to 17) choose airtime, gift vouchers or school items. Adults (18+) choose airtime, gift vouchers or a cash withdrawal. Prizes are released once the result is verified and any fair-play review is complete.
Where does the prize money come from, and is it safe?
Paid entry fees and sponsor prize pools are locked in an escrow account for that event as soon as they are paid, and recorded in a tamper-evident ledger. The money is released to the winners when the event finishes, or refunded in full if the event is cancelled.
How do I pay and withdraw?
Adults can deposit and withdraw by card or mobile money where available, processed securely by Paystack. MetaDuels never stores your full card number. Withdrawals always require your password, go only to a payout method in your own name, and larger withdrawals get a second review, which usually takes under an hour.
Do I need to verify my identity to withdraw?
Yes, for cash withdrawals we may ask you to verify your identity and the ownership of your payout method. This protects your winnings and is required by anti-money-laundering rules.
Can I get a refund on an entry fee?
You get a full refund if you leave a paid event before the bracket starts, or if the event is cancelled. After the bracket starts, entry fees are not refundable.
Do I have to pay tax on prizes?
Taxes on prizes are the winner's responsibility. In countries where the law requires withholding tax on winnings, MetaDuels deducts it before paying out and shows you the deduction.
Fair play
How are results verified?
Arcade scores are recomputed on our server by replaying your recorded inputs, so a modified game cannot fake a score. Chess, Clash Royale and Brawl Stars results are read directly from Lichess and Supercell's official APIs using your linked game account. For other games, both players report the score with a screenshot, and a referee decides any disagreement.
How does MetaDuels stop cheating?
Besides server-side replay verification, automated checks look for inputs no human can produce, bots, collusion and multiple accounts. Suspicious runs are held for review by staff. Cheaters are disqualified, forfeit their prizes, and can be permanently banned.
Can I have more than one account?
No. Each person may have one account. Multiple accounts and smurfing (using a new account to play weaker opponents) are banned, and any prizes won that way are forfeited.
Kids, teens and safety
Can children use MetaDuels?
Yes, from age 6. Your date of birth places you in a tier: Junior (under 13), Youth (13 to 17) or Adult (18+). Juniors play non-violent games, chat with preset messages only, and win school items. Youth chat is filtered. Brackets never mix tiers, and children never have a cash wallet.
Why does my child need my consent?
Child data-protection laws, including the Kenya Data Protection Act and the GDPR, require a parent or guardian's consent to process a minor's data. Players under 18 can browse right away, but they compete only after a guardian approves through the link we email. Guardians can review, correct or delete their child's data, or withdraw consent, at any time.
What is Showdown?
Showdown is MetaDuels' live trivia party mode. One person creates a room and shares the code; everyone answers on their own phone, and the server scores answers and speed in real time. It works for classrooms, families and friend groups.
